Maureen Gillespie was born in Ireland, now resides in Oxfordshire. She is self-taught but has attended a number of tutorials. Working mostly in oil she uses a variety of techniques to obtain the desired effect. Her main inspiration is nature, in particular land and seascapes, capturing the mood, light and atmosphere. Capturing moments from walks by the coast and countryside, catching the light on a wave or the glimmer of sunlight through the trees. Maureen makes quick sketches and takes photos, which she transfers on to board in her studio. She is inspired by the Impressionists – Monet. Realism – Gustave Courbet and Turner for his expressive landscapes. Her passion is to create a piece of work that has sensory value to the viewer. She has exhibited in the Cotswolds, Ireland, Jersey with – BNP (Paribas) and the Cotswolds. Featured in the ‘Oxford Art Book ‘ The City through the eyes of its artists’. Maureen is a regular participant in Oxfordshire Art weeks, a member of Chipping Norton Arts, and Visual Artists Association.
