Ivana Svabic Cannon is an artist illustrator and printmaker who is based in Bristol. Serbian born, she started her career as a children’s book illustrator in London in ’92. Iva has exhibited and sold her prints widely in the UK and Europe; she has had ten solo shows and over a hundred group exhibitions. Iva exhibition at the Royal West of England Academy and the Mall Galleries in London and Spike Print Studio at Spike Island print studio where she creates her prints.
During the last two decades, Iva has explored linocut and woodcut printmaking techniques. She prints her images in small editions of maximum 30 prints on high quality printing paper. As a result of high adjusted pressure of a printing press, images revealed are highly embossed and that brings a sculptural quality to the two-dimensional works. Each plate is inked by hand and consequently prints from the same edition may have slight variations in tone or colour, which makes each of them a unique piece of art.
Iva has created a series of prints through an insatiable drive for experimentation. Her prints are disarming in their visual simplicity, and yet they contain a complexity arrived at through decades of searching for essence. At once ascetic and opulent, these works clearly reflect their medium.
