CHOC (Clare ‘CHOC’ Howell) is an abstract and figurative artist based in West Wales. Her work is driven by energy, atmosphere and emotional resonance rather than literal representation. She is interested in how a painting feels — how it holds space, carries movement and communicates something beyond surface appearance.

Her art is informed by extensive travel and by rave music culture, where colour, sound and collective energy have become inseparable influences. A lifetime of art practice has shaped her relationship with colour as something visceral and transformative, and this continues to underpin the vibrancy and dynamism of her work today.

CHOC creates statement pieces that are immersive and physical. Colour is used instinctively to convey rhythm, intensity and presence. Her “landscapes with the volume turned up” are not attempts at photorealism, but expressions of places experienced emotionally rather than observed objectively.

Paintings are made to lead a space rather than decorate it — to anchor a room, shift atmosphere and invite an emotional response. CHOC’s full portfolio is on display at Galeri CHOC in North Pembrokeshire and she exhibits regularly. Her work is held internationally in private collections, and she is open to national and international opportunities for representation and commissions.
