Walter Holmes had his first solo exhibition at the Gulbenkian Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne in 1971. Since then he has exhibited throughout the UK from Hampshire to Edinburgh. During the 1980’s and 90’s he had work hung in several of the Federation of British Artist’s open exhibitions at the Mall Galleries, London. He has had commissions from many private collectors and private companies. Walter uses mainly oils and pastels, working on-site and in the workshop. His style is mostly representational but the paintings often show signs of his early (and continuing) admiration of abstract expressionism.
